Notice about washing instructions

In the 2 years I've been making Wrapstar Baby Carriers, I have never had an issue with materials or workmanship. Recently, there have been 2 carriers that have had internal canvas shrink in the washing cycle. Both were from the same order of canvas. Because of this, I am cautioning owners to spotclean their Wrapstar instead of washing in a washing machine.
This is a cosmetic issue only, and does not affect thesafety of the carrier. In an effort to always improve quality, this situation is being looked into. So until further notice, the recommended cleaning method will be to spot clean as needed.

Holy Appliqué, BATMAN!!!!

Ok, this carrier deserves a post all of its own. After about 80 emails, this carrier took on a life of it's own. We went back and forth on want materials to use, the appliqué, how to lay it out...ect. All of our hard work PAID OFF. This is the most amazing carrier. Everything was drawn free hand, and it took me forever to get it how I liked it. I love how it has two "scenes", and the simplicity of the Osneburg we used for the panel is just the perfect backdrop to this creation.

I hope you all enjoy looking at it as I did creating it!

so expanding is going well...

I am slowly getting my new help trained and getting them supplies. My hope is to move away from once a month, mad-rush, store stockings....and just always have a good flow of inventory into the store.

When I add inventory to the store, I will post it on my Facebook page HERE so check there for the most current information.

We experienced some bugs with the new website. And one of the BIGGEST problems was overselling of carriers. By moving away from the mad-rush of a store stocking, we hope to help minimize that problem. Also by having inventory in the store all the time, it will help newer customers that have been having a hard time figuring out how to properly stalk and get a carrier.

I am also hoping to start having more Wrap conversions available at the store.

Spread the word of babywearing, and let me know your thoughts on this new layout for my store!

Thanks!

here are a few carriers that have shipped out recently!

Sorry about that everyone!

I am finishing up my last custom from the old list and working on the begining of the new custom list.

I really enjoyed everyone's customs! I love how different and unique all the appliques are. It is a lot of fun doing them.

Also, if you havent checked it out....my new Website is fully up and running!
Wrapstar Babycarriers

I want to give a thank you to my friend Jen, that wrote the funny poem on the home page. And a thank you to all the mama's that submitted pictures for the photo contest! I am hoping to be able to add more pictures soon, since there are more beautiful photos that I want to use!

I am thinking about adding a "Testimonials" page to the website...so if there is something you want to say about Wrapstar, and want everyone to know it......email it to me! I will put it up on the website!

I am also going to work on more wearing videos. I have the Pod and Wrap conversion ones up...so i will be working on the Mei Tai instructions here soon. But it takes a while to have everything right...showered, looking decent, happy baby, Mei Tai handy, ect.... :)

Ok, I am going to finish my hot tea, then cut up some more wraps!

Essay Contest VOTING!!!!!!

Vote for your favorite essay to win a custom Wrapstar Baby Carrier on our Facebook Fan page!!

Entry #1:

His Life in Short Story and Haiku

Cries and weeping tears
On my breast he lays his head
Heart beat and dry eyes
My son was failure to thrive at his 2 week appointment. He cried day and night and it wasn’t until then that we found out he was crying from hunger. We found out that he needed tongue surgery, but it was until he was one month old before he could really nurse and feel full. He cried a lot and I cried to. The I discovered babywearing and I wrapped him against my chest. He cried as I wrapped him for the first time but then he stopped. I couldn’t believe my eyes. His head lay against my heart and he was content. For the first time since his birth, so was I.
Sweet scent of baby
Wisping hair tickles my chin
Arms out but held close
I especially loved front carries. I would place the lower mei tai straps under my breast so his head would sit where I could kiss his forehead. I would breathe him in and all my senses were stimulated. As he looked left and right, his hair would cross my chin and tickle me, but I loved every minute. I was finally free to clean my messy home, but I never lost a moment of snuggling.
Santa toss giggles
Wiggle wiggle shake shake up
Small hands full of curls
When I began practicing back carries, my son was so distressed. He would cry and straighten his legs. He was always unhappy until he was secure and even then I would have to bounce him to sleep. I worried that I would never get it right. Then, one day I was at my support groups with some wraps and mei tais, displaying my new babywearing skills. I placed my son on the wrap and got him ready for the santa toss. I threw him over my shoulder and he giggled. I wiggled to get him in placed and shook to scoot him up high. I wrapped him and he laughed the entire time. Then he grabbed my curly hair and I didn’t even care because he was happy and so was I.
Wrapped in tapered love
Carried high he sees the world
So secure he sleeps
I have come to see my carriers as extensions of our bond, our love for each other. I wrap my son with love and always hold him close. He is almost 4 months old and is beginning to really see the world. He turns his head out and I can tell he is taking in everything around us. The tall trees, the smell of spring, and colors blooming around us. And when he has had enough, he no longer cries. Instead, he brings his head back in to me, making sure he is secure, making sure he is safe. And shortly thereafter, he is sleeping soundly. The kind of sleep where his eyes flutter and I know he is dreaming about all of the beautiful things he has seen that day. Now he is happy and so am I.

Entry #2:

How We Came to Babywear...

It was a smoldering August morning when he arrived into this world screaming in protest to everything around him. I was in the delivery room and I am his mother, but I am not the woman who gave birth to him. You see, two months earlier another son was born of my womb without a breath to breathe or a beat to his heart. He was the third baby I had said goodbye to in the previous 3 years. The heartache was extreme, and at that point I decided my family building would have to be built further through the gift of adoption. It was very surprising when we were approached shortly after our loss about adopting a baby to be born very soon. That is where our babywearing story starts, and has created a legacy to be carried on through generations.

Our son’s birthmom was going through a very rough spot in her life. She was homeless with two small girls already, and this pregnancy was unexpected and very unwanted. Her goal was to just forget she was pregnant. Since it helped to use artificial means to help herself forget, she used these substances liberally. Things she used to numb her sensations were high amounts of xanax, vicodin, marijuana, alcohol, and nicotine (to name a few). I had no idea of her self-medication, so I had no idea that those screams at birth would continue into shakes and withdraws along with hours of screaming until he passed out. When he was just a few days old a friend gave use a ring sling to use. It seemed to work miracles, as he was the most calm and content when in the sling.

Over the next year he grew out of the withdrawals and into more serious complications from his in-utero exposure. He had a very weak immune system and was constantly ill. Putting him down was near impossible. He was too big for his sling (well, I thought so anyhow…I never knew you could use them on the hip) so I began to seek out new options and discovered “TheBabyWearer.com”. Through that I learned to use wraps and began my love affair with Mei Tai carriers. He is better now and to this day he still spends some time being “worn” on my back, even though he is almost five years old.

We are now getting ready for another adoption of a baby with special needs and are excited about adding to our family and also to our carrier stash. He will certainly need a lot of carry time, as he will have partial or full paralysis from the waist down.

My older children love to carry, as well as my husband and now our extended family. Even my sister in law (who’s children are teenagers) is teaching her young friends about the wide variety of baby carriers and options for wearing your baby. So, through the birth of our one very special baby, a long line of baby wearers has been created.

Entry #3:

Acronym era

We all live in an era that uses acronyms all the time. Some of the most common that we will come across would be acronyms like LOL, FYI, ASAP to name a few, I know that a lot of us are even saying it in daily conversations to communicate with each other.
When I first started venturing into babywearing world with my baby girl, I was so shocked to be thrown with overwhelming amounts of acronyms out there in the forums and even at babywearing meet ups.
So it got me thinking, what if WRAPSTAR is an acronym, and each letter represents the amazing benefits of babywearing!
W.R.A.P.S.T.A.R.
W- Wailing stops as soon as the baby is worn closely to the caregiver.
R- Rest and relaxation is evident for both baby and the caregiver when baby is snuggled up.
A-Attachment; the best way to encourage attachment with your baby!
P-Play is absolutely fun when baby is worn.
S-Stylish; babywearing products are so fashionable and definitely a trend-setter everywhere.
T- Thrive; babies grow so much better when snuggled up with their caregivers
A-Attitude Shaping; we know that babies learn by watching our behavior.
R- Relationship; babywearing is the best way to bond and build a long lasting relationship!

Entry #4:

Once upon a time, in the land of Ishihara,
Lived a lady, a baby, and their pet Capybara.
The lady was sweet, but overly stressed.
The baby was cranky and quick to protest.
The rodent was large and covered with fur,
And when it would bark it would cause quite the stir!
On the day of our story, it was so very warm,
A humid kind of heat which hints at a storm,
The family, all three, jumped into their pool,
And splashed in the sun in their attempt to keep cool.
The Capybara was the first to turn red.
At the sight of his skin, they all quickly fled
From the pool and the eye of the hot summer sun
Before all of them ended up well done!
The suddenness of their hasty departure
Caused the young baby to lose her composure.
The squeals from poor Capy mixed with shrieks from the child
To create a cacophony anything but mild!
Lucky for Mom, she was a clever young lass,
She'd studied chemistry and was head of her class.
Away to her lab, to whip up a balm
For the cute Capy's sunburn; and to make baby calm,
She stopped by her closet and pulled off the floor
The item that never failed to make baby snore:
Her beautiful Wrapstar, a Storch wrap conversion,
It was just what she'd need for her labtime excursion.
She wrapped her miffed baby high up on her back,
Let the sleepy dust work, then began to attack
The challenge of making the sunburn dissolve.
A challenge that didn't take her long to resolve.
Just a little aloe vera mixed with chemicals X, Y, and N,
Created the perfect antidote for dear Capy's skin.
While the baby was happily sleeping in fluff,
The lady was able to slather the stuff.
The Capy was happy, the baby content,
After working so hard, the lady was spent.
None of these outcomes could have been attained
Without the fine Wrapstar and the lady's big brain!

Entry #5

(sung to the tone of "I Like Big Butts")

I Like Fluffy Wraps (and I Can Not Lie)

I like fluffy wraps and I can not lie
You other babywearers can't deny
That when a girl walks in with a wrap around her waist
And a new squishy baby face to face
You get stoked, wanna pull out your stash
'Cause you notice that wrap was stuffed
Deep in the wrap she's wearing
I'm hooked and I can't stop staring
Oh baby, I wanna wrap just like you
And take your picture
My bw'ing friends tried to warn me
But that stash you got makes me so horny
Ooh, wrap-a-holics
You say you wanna wrap and frolic?
Well, show me, teach me
'Cause this aint no average Snuggli
I've seen them up on the swap
To hell with shoes, its wraps I wanna shop!
They're long and cuddly
When Daddies wear 'em they look so studly!
I'm tired of magazines
Sayin' Snugglis and Bjorns are the thing
Take the average BW'ing Mama and ask her that
She gotta wrap a baby on her back
So, ladies! (Yeah!) Ladies! (Yeah!)
Has your stash got what's hot? (Hell yeah!)
Tell 'em to wrap it! (Wrap it!) Wrap it! (Wrap it!)
Wrap that squishy babe!
Baby got wrap!

Baby got wrap!

May store stocking canceled!

Sorry to disappoint everyone! I am still working furiously on custom orders and have not had time to work on stuff for a store stocking.

I apologize for any dashed hopes and dreams while we work through these growing pains.

But on a brighter note: be prepared to see some Wrapstars available with some of our favorite baby carrier vendors soon!!!

Custom slots will begin like normal starting the first week of May.

Discussions are starting as to if we should keep doing the custom slots as we are, or if we should do a wait list. I will let you all know if we decide to change our mind on how to do things.

Essay contest and raffles winners for Week 1 and Week 2!

Ok, sorry I didn't post this last week for the week one winners, but I was out of town and forgot when I got home.

So the random drawing winner for week one was: Carolina!!! Congrats mama!

The essay contest winner from week one: Lauren

Ode to the Wrapstar

Oh Sweet Wrapstar how I dream about you
You come in so many different colors, so many options to choose

Shall I convert my favorite wrap, Gira #27
Add an elephant applique, the result would be heaven

A sleep hood for my baby, maybe a padded waist
So wonderful in my dreams, could never leave me with distaste

I'd spend my days with baby, wearing our conversion all around
We'd skip about so happy, our feet barely making a sound

Or do I create a mei tai, with the prettiest fabric I can find
maybe even a reversible, with the two prettiest combined

And if it's rather chilly, the minkee lining will suffice
I would laugh in the face of snow, wind, rain and ice

And how could I forget, the most interesting it's true
A wrap to pod conversion, that's most definitely something I could do

So many different ways to satisfy my carrying needs
then I see pictures of completed wraps and from reality I recede

I think about it all day long, my very own Wrapstar
And pray the day one comes to me, won't be very far

So I stalk poor Erin, on her Etsy, Blog, and Wrapstar group page
And sit and wait for a custom slot, feeling like a tiger in a cage!

Suddenly it's in my cart, I must check out as fast as I can
But oh you stinkin Etsy, making me choose my address AGAIN

No longer is it sitting there, waiting just for me
Tears well up in my eyes, I ask the keyboard "how can it be?"

So close so close, yet so far away
Please hurry up Thursday, I need you to be today

Tonight I will be dreaming of my very own fluffy mail
A Wrapstar Wrap Conversion, a babywearer's Holy Grail.

And here are the results from week 2:

Random Drawing winner Week 2: Melissa! Congrats!
Essay Contest Winner Week 2: Ashleigh!

So I've stalked all the custom slots and never was my finger fast enough to click and get it into my cart, and then pay for it before it became "sold out". So here I am attempting my best at writing (which I will let you know, my english teacher in college said I was absolutely horrible at, but I figure as a medical student, I can get by with mediocre writing as long as I can add and subtract correctly!).

Babywearing. Leyna is my first, and my pride and joy. She has turned into my life. And honestly, I don't see too big of a change in myself and in general. I attribute this in part to Babywearing.

I'm not "tied at home" like other people seem to believe your kids will do to you. I go out, I'm sure to have a wrap in the car, or even the Ergo. I'm able to get out, do my shopping in comfort and ease instead of worrying if my baby is going to slip out of the "seat" on the shopping buggy, or that my car seat (because I refused to clip it where the "seat" is) is going to take up all the room my groceries would need. Besides, Leyna loves to be on her mommy's back, and I can generally keep her "safer" up there from countless hands of strangers that seem to offer up their fingers as chew toys.

Even in restaurants my wraps find their uses as a back cushion in those disgusting wooden high chairs that are a one size fit all. My little girl is quite petite, and with a wrap folded behind her, she fits just fine and is able to join in our meals with us, instead of just sitting in her "bucket" at some odd corner of the table out of the way. She is a part of the family.

Wraps also find their way into my life as uses for baby blankets, spread out on the ground for nap times when we were at a crawfish festival visiting family. My husband spread it out on the ground, laid his sleeping daughter on it, and covered her back with a blanket. You can ask my husband and he will tell you than even when he is trying to rock Lena to sleep and give me a slight break, he has gotten into the habit of picking up a wrap and laying it across his lap and over and arm for Lena to snuggle into as she falls asleep.

Wraps have saved my life. Now I just need a wrap conversion to hide in my stash and hopefully have the husband love as much as I know I will.

No more custom slots for the month of April

I am so sorry everyone. Due to the illness that has been flying though my house, I have gotten SO behind. I must get my backlog caught up. It is not fair to anyone for people to be waiting weeks and weeks for their custom.

So I instead of letting my backlog get longer, I am going to get caught up and work on the store stocking for the 30th.

I am planning a fun way to score custom slots for the month of May in honor of my birthday.

thank you so much for your understanding.

Not one thing got done yesterday. My baby was sick. Not horribly sick, but the kind of sick where she was achy and lethargic, and would SCREAM unless she was laying right on top of me. Needless to say, we spent the day just sitting and watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 4 on DVD.

She is doing much better today, so I hope to get some work done!

CUSTOM SLOTS!

ok, I will be posting 2 custom slots a week. The day/time will NOT change.

The day/time will be:

Tuesdays at 1pm CST
Thursdays at 9pm CST

If there are any changes to this schedule I will let you know. These custom slots will be for EITHER a Mei Tai OR wrap conversion. It will be for whatever you want.

I will ask though, please have your wrap ready and your fabric choices picked out before purchase. Having a delay in materials makes it very difficult for me to get orders out in a timely manner, and I get back logged.

I am also on schedule for another store stocking at the end of the month.

Please note new Applique pricing

Hello all! I wanted to give you guys an update that I have to increase the prices on my appliques. I am getting more and more requests for intricate and difficult appliques. I do not mind doing them, but I need to price accordingly. I am going to base my prices on hours of work. I don't think a lot of people realize the time those appliques take. For example, the much loved "Tree of Life" applique takes me 8 hours to do. I hope everyone understands why I have to do it. Let me know if you have a budget you need to meet, and I can help get you the correct applique to hit your budget!

Thanks again so much everyone!
